“We only fall to get back up."
John has always had a passion for buildings. A grade school field trip on an architectural boat tour down the Chicago River, associated with a drawing of one of the buildings seen, is all it took for him to decide this was the path he wanted to take in life.
He took this passion for construction with him to high school where he took every architecture/drafting class available. John decided his path was to head into construction management. He decided this over architecture because he wanted to spend most of his time out in the field constructing buildings, not in an office drafting them. (He has nothing against architects though...more power to all of you out there. Keep drawing so he can keep building.)
John earned his Associate’s Degree from College of DuPage before transferring to Illinois State University. There he earned his Bachelor’s of Science with a major in Construction Management and a minor in Business Administration. Although graduating in 2010 with a degree in construction management wasn’t the best timing, John did whatever he could to gain experience. He took an extended internship with a custom home builder in Normal, IL for a couple months until moving back to the Chicago area. Back in Chicagoland, he took a job as a laborer for a renovation company to help build his resumé. After being a laborer for over a year, John received a job with a corporate production home builder where he worked for over four years managing new construction homes. John eventually decided to leave corporate America and the luxuries it brings to join BrightLeaf Homes, because he believes the BrightLeaf way of building homes is the right way to build homes.
Outside of work, John enjoys going to concerts or listening to any type of live music, travelling to places he’s never been, and sports. He is an avid golfer, but definitely not a scratch golfer… yet. He also enjoys camping, fishing, or pretty much anything involving being near water and the outdoors.
